Objectives
The degree programme combines subject-specific training in the subject of mathematics and the second chosen subject, including subject didactics specific to the respective subject, with training in educational science, in which basic knowledge in educational psychology, general pedagogy and career orientation is imparted. With the Bachelor's degree, graduates acquire a qualification that enables them to directly take up a Master's degree programme for both the teaching profession at grammar schools and the teaching profession at secondary schools, as well as to work in other educational fields of activity. It also qualifies graduates to take up employment in corresponding professional fields and in related Master's degree programmes.
Career Perspectives
In order to teach as a teacher at a state general education school, a Master's degree with the qualification "Master of Education" is required after the Bachelor's degree, which entitles the holder to begin the preparatory service (Referendariat). Corresponding study programmes are offered at the OVGU.
With the Bachelor's degree, graduates can also work in educational fields of action. This includes, among other things, advisory, coordination and development activities in the teaching materials industry, including new media, as well as in educational projects at home and abroad, but also training and further training activities at educational institutions in various sponsorships and pedagogical activities in the extracurricular sector and in tutoring institutes.
Competencies and Interests Required
Interest in mathematics and the second chosen subject, in teaching these subjects and thus in a pedagogical activity is expected.
